This is a mock up model for Universal Studios Japan that I did a couple of years ago while working at the model shop where I am employed. The name of the coaster is Hollywood Dream The Ride. Near as I can tell from looking at pix of the real one in Osaka, it is much like The Hulk in Orlando, FL
I've added 3 pix of the real coaster in Osaka. They used our mock up to fabricate the real fiberglass pieces that skin the coaster.

^ The above was NOT a slam.
* I was told to post that on the advice of my lawyer because he says my humor, such as it is, can be mis-construed. Or something like that.

That looks so cool bud. Whats the size of the build?
I'm imagining desk top models of famous coaster cars on tracks. |

Neat! Talk about a dream job... working in a model shop.

The size of the coaster model was approximately 3' in length and weighed in at around 40-45 lbs. Everything was cast solid and it had a solid steel square rod running down the middle for support and car attachment.
HHmmmm, lets see, dream job working in a model shop? NOT!!! While I enjoy my work, its a job just like any other. It has its good points and bad points. The good things of course are working on interesting jobs like the coasters and certain arch. models, and some prototype work that comes in, but the "bad" things are deadlines that seem almost impossible to meet. Lots of overtime (unpaid) when that happens (I'm salaried), and jobs that you take or do that are just not that interesting just because you need to keep a positive cash flow in the shop. In fact at times it can just bore you to tears. Say, for example you love to build Sci-Fi or armor and that's it. Your then asked to build a car or a ship. Something you have absolutely no interest in whatsoever, and in some cases detest. Here you are building something that offers no enjoyment for you whatsoever. Like I said, its just like any other job that most people have. It has its good points and bad points. For most of you, I'm sure you wouldn't care what you were doing as long as you were "working in a model shop". I felt that way the first year I was in the business, but after a while, you just come to understand that its just like any other job. Others, like me, know this first hand. Cobywan, REL, and Custom Replicator come to mind immediately, as I know that's what they do every day of the week. Still, I enjoy the work, and who I work for and hope to continue doing it until I drop dead. Whenever that may be.
