Gorgeous!
How is the dish lit? Is there an LED in the center of the dish?

The dish is lit with this 2mm lighthouse LED, frosted to transmit light radially as it seats in the center hole of the frosted dish. The end is butted to the end of the FO which then lights the spire tip.

Brilliant! Ha - see what I did there! But really, smart construction. I didn't know LEDs came in that shape or did you modify it?

Thanks! This is a 2mm Lighthouse LED. They have these extended shafts to allow it to pass through thicker materials, essentially giving it a stubby fiber optic on it's own. I use these almost everywhere on my builds for the nav, strobe and spotlight sources. They fit nicely in the thick plastic of the R2 kits or through the resin parts I make. If they're too long, you can easily sand them down to whatever height is just right.

I had never heard of (nor seen) a lighthouse LED-- thanks for the pic and writeup.

Another good weekend of progress, so this will be a picture-heavy post for those who don't like to read. I'm apologizing in advance so here it goes:

Last Sunday, after the main board short, a new one was immediately ordered from Big Easy Modeling Solutions which arrived on Thursday.

This board was installed that night and the secondary hull finally glued shut. A few light test photos were taken:

Over the weekend, body work continued with the permanent attachment of the spine and subspace antenna, secondary hull seams and the full construction of the lower transom and stern. I also made small brass collars for the antenna beacon light and base for the aft hangar dome.

last night, the port pylon shell was mounted, the ship once again laser-aligned to the bench, and the port nacelle nudged and renudged into square with the hull. 5-minute epoxy sealed the job.

All major components are mounted. Nacelle seam work and lower swoop plate are next. Next week: priming and painting should begin.

The big milestone that has become a tradition of mine, is attaining The Andrea Shot. The Cat's Miranda inspired me to build Sentinel and his picture of M posed in front of Andrea is what drove me to finish my build. So, last year, I took a picture of S when I was able to get to the point of lighting her nacelles. This was achieved with Hood this past week with the final wiring and assembly of the pylons and nacelles - so the tradition continues!

Weekend progress on Hood - nacelle/pylon bodywork and masking of all ports and external lights. A new overall primer coat was applied which revealed a number of areas needing further attention. Following this will be another layer of light-blocking flat black and a finish top coat of primer before hull color is applied.
