Default Monogram 48th B-26 Marauder "Yolande"

I'm building this baby up pretty much straight OOB. I was HEAVILY tempted to get a pair of Quickboost engines for it, but the engines are set so far back in the nacelles that you can't see much detail, and they have the wrong distributors on them anyway.

I was ALSO tempted to get a set of Loon Models' replacement cowlings, because the fit of the kit parts SUCK ALOUD, but I didn't feel like spending $30 on them.

The fit can be corrected if you just exercise patience in shaping the parts (a trait that I did NOT possess the last time I built one of these kits.... in ~1982!)

That B-17F I'm building is a first for me in that I'm painting it up new-school. I'm using new techniques on it that Neb has been teaching me, and I'm loving what I'm seeing.

With this one, I'm combining that with a new (to me) way of doing a natural metal finish - Alclad. Goodbye, metalizers..... like my ex-wife, you look great but you're too damn temperamental, plus you relish(ed) in pointing out every mistake I ever make.

Soooo -

Once you master Alclad, you'll develope an even larger contempt for those metalizers....

Okay, George, spill. What are these mystical techniques you're teaching Dave, and why haven't you let me in on the secret?

Basically, it's using acrylics and weathering with pinwashes and so on. I've known OF them for a while, just never put them into practice. He's telling me what to do and how to do it. My skillset's way the hell out of date, and I'm a stubborn individual, but it's time to make changes.

It'll be a long while before I'd consider any of my builds Nationals-ready, but I'll get there one of these days.

I'd like to do some good studio-scale stuff sometime soon - and I damn well BETTER update!
