Default Venator Class Star Destroyer

I've started working on building the Revell Venator kit. I'm going to be modifying it quite a bit with paneling and details. Of course I'll be adding lighting as well.

The kit is quite good in the first place but I've seen some really good modifications that people have done and I can't resist since it can look so much better.

I might be doing some pieces in the computer and getting them printed, like maybe some engine parts and redoing the turbolasers, but we'll see about that.

BTW for reference, does anyone have the Japanese version of Star Wars Chronicles: The Prequels book? It's got like 20 pages more than the U.S. version, including some good pictures of the turbolasers for this. I had a hard time even finding any reference to the book actually existing (hard to search for things in Japanese) although I did find someone selling one, but it was for like $450 which is too much just to get one reference.

Also, the first release of the kit has a different box art with a render of the CG model of the ship on the front:

If anyone has that box could they maybe get a scan of it? Looks like it would be good reference. The one I got has a different box with pictures of just the model.

Anyways, here's some starting pictures. I've started on the bridge first, It's a bit tedious with the small parts, I'll be getting some more stuff this weekend that should make things easier.

Yeah, I did tons of google searches and found that one. I wonder if the other versions have the extra pages like the japanese version. I have the U.S. book but those orthographic views are very small, there's no more detail that what you can see in that image.

Small update, didn't do as much on the holiday as I wanted, but I think it's coming along well.

While this part is taking a lot of time, it won't be so bad to do the other tower since I've already figured things out.

Got more greeble parts--1/700th ships from Pit Road which were on sale for a huge discount. They've got tons of great parts to use. Hopefully I'll update again soon.

Here's an update. New kit parts are working really well. Still very tedious to place each piece. But I'll get it done eventually.

Here's an update, got more of those kits for pieces and some new thinner styrene. Still going slow but I'm getting there. Different camera too. I'm also testing out some 3D printing at Shapeways to see if it might be possible to replace some parts with nicer ones (like the turbolasers).

Yep, I'm referencing his build and another one and kinda taking the best of both.

I also found that Yatasith is using some of the same kits---the Pit Road 1/700 ship kits

Takes a long time though.
