Ok, here is a pic as I was cutting the parts off of the sprue and starting to mockup with junk parts.



I'm still formulating a plan and digging out the scrap boxes. I'll finish up my decals this week and get them printed.

I'm going to rob a second viper for the rounded engine bits. The freefloating wall attaches to the rear of the scoops. I may thicken the wall inwardly. Hard to describe really but I've been mocking it up to see what needs to be created to go in behind that wall. I'll post more pics soon so you'll see where I'm going with it.

You bet it was. Not as nerve-wracking as doing the same thing to an MPC Eagle way back in the day. Same technique.. Just thirty (I think) years apart.

On that note,

I really hate to totally poo-poo a product but I got MMI's landing gear set at WF.

It's almost totally unusable for anything except as patterns for scratchbuilding a new set.

Voids and holes completely through parts, 'boogers' in impossible-to-clean locations such as between the wheels. Some parts are too thickly-molded, and it would be quicker and easier to mod kit parts or scratchbuild them outright, plus you'd end up with a better job. The landing gear struts themselves look okay but the resin is thin and brittle and I doubt it'd actually support the ship's weight.

A fellow at WF looked at the parts and opined that the molds should have been thrown out and replaced hundreds of pulls ago.

I've been wanting that set since it first became available back in '02... talk about a disappointment

I wanted the intake set but since it's not available right now, I may enlarge mine a bit for greater "ion" flow or whatever they are supposed to do.

I am trying to keep the original look but I keep seeing things that can be changed. Kinda like a can of Pepsi....by the time I am finished with it, it would be a can of Coke. MMmmm, much better.

I was gonna pick up the cockpit set but it's not really set up to light easily... at least thats the way it looks in the pics over at SSM

I want the cockpit to be dirty and busy, like modern pits are. BSG is a sorta dirty industrial future, given a wipedown for TV.
