Atomic City Studio Scale D7 WIP
Thought I'd show a few pictures of my Atomic City (Capt. Cardboard) D7. This is an amazing kit, Scott Alexander did a fantastic job on it. I've been working on it for a couple of months now, and have made a number of modifications to make it look closer to the original filming model. First, the pylon attachment was made thicker by adding sheet styrene to increase the thickness of the pylon, bringing the pylon even with the side of the nacelle. Then the grille area above that was sanded down and recessed, then replaced with the correct 15 rib layout using Evergreen half round. I still have to make and attach the diamond shaped pieces that mount into the lower part of the grille. Next in comparing the model to the studio pictures and AMT model, I noticed the area where the boom or neck meets the main hull was off quite a bit. It had been changed at some point from a series of curves, to something that more resembled a grooved cylinder. To change this back to the way the filming model looked required quite a bit of work. I had to use pictures of the Roddenberry/Poe model and the AMT kit to try to figure out how it should have looked, as there aren't any good clear shots of that area of the studio model. I wish I had more pics of my model in it's early stages but I just got a decent camera, so better late than never! I'll update the post with more progress and other changes I've made later on.
