USS Grissom
1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone,

I've posted this model elsewhere, but seeing as I'm new to these waters, I thought I would introduce myself here with my model of the Grissom.

People here seem to be all about scratchbuilding and major conversions; the closest thing I have is my version of the Sci-Fi Spaceship Miniatures "Survey Class Vessel," an old garage kit vacuform that needed a lot of work. I came pretty close. Of course, only after I finished it did the Subether Christie's photos come out...

The WIP is here:

The desing of this ship has grown on me over the years. Very nice model you have built.

I see this on SSM grew - very nice. I like the lights...

I remember that kit all to well, it was the first all vac kit I ever did, way back in the mid 80's. You did a really impessive job, I do think I can say, the best I have seen..Kev

Not seen this before.

 Holy crap suwalski, phenomenal build. Can't believe how small the kit is aswell. You've made it look way bigger. Excellent work. :yeah::yeah::yeah:

I too followed this on SSM. I was really impressed with it and plan to use your build-up as an on-line instruction guide for myself....whenever I get arounf to actually building it.

Another who followed this at SM, here. Great work. I wouldn't've know it wasn't a studio model if you hadn't told us - well, and I hadn't followed the buildup thread at SM! :D

Looks awesome! Take it to a contest and take First Place or to WonderFest and take home at least a Bronze!

Easily could be mistaken for a studio model. How big is your model? I have a feeling its alot smaller then it looks!

suwalski 01-23-2008 04:12 PM

Thanks everyone. I definitely built it for photography and to look as much as the studio model as possible. Aside from a few shapes that are still wrong on the kit and uncorrected, I think I got it pretty close.

The model is 11" long. Each of the pill-shaped windows is 3mm by 1mm. The saucer is the size of a typical person's palm. There are photos with my hand in the WIP site.

Sweet! I've always loved this little ship, ever since I first saw her in ST: III. Beautiful work!

Beautiful model! Great paint job--the subtle detailing/weathering is perfect for a Fed ship. Lighting really makes it special effects worthy.
