It is ‘2010: The year we make contact’. And is also the anniversary of 2001: A Space Odyssey - the year of new kits from this film! Kubricks’ landmark film is STILL unparalleled in visual hyper-realism. This movie had miniatures that Hollywood will probably never equal in believability, and sheer perfection of detail.
AJAMODELS is proud to announced the ARIES 1B in precisely 1/48th scale ( or 1/3rd studio scale): The only large scale kit of this to be released. This model is over 10” wide and 13” tall (with landing legs extended). That makes it bigger than a pro basketball! The model was patterned by maestro Scott Spicer of SRS Prototyping from my collection of over 2 dozen close-up photos of the studio miniature and MGM’s original model shop schematics. Scott and I worked very closely together for over 16 months to recreate Kubrick and Ordway’s vision of this highly memorable space vehicle. Molding extraordinaire Mike Salzo has been working overtime to cast this complex kit so we can ALL own one!
NOTE: I will use this thread to show the WIP of the first production model.
The kit features are: A revolutionary one piece casting of the main body.
Snap-fit assembly and precise locator pins for all parts.
Landing legs extend and retract exactly per the filming miniature with lubricated joints and a mimicked hydraulic action.
Neodymium magnets hold the ‘clamshell’ leg covers in place so they can also open and close.
Blueprint accurate to the smallest detail. Nothing added, nothing taken away, no guess-work!
Rare behind-the-scenes photos included in the kit as references for super-detailing.
Brass parts, lubricant and ND magnets are included in the kit.
Over 150 parts with a detailed instruction book.
Affordable (for its size and features)!!!
Interior kit available in the near future as an option.
I did not want to give promises for release dates I could’nt honor so that is why I awaited announcement until they were ready to ship…..Most importantly, this kit is available NOW!! They are boxed up and ready to ship!!!!
The Aries 1B and other unique 2001: ASO kits are exclusively handled by AJAMODELS now. I will not go thru distributors anymore so I can keep the prices down for you!
