Any suggestions on kit genres that the parts might come from will help too. Take a guess ;D

Thanks !

thanks Duck, that is really helpfull. i was chasing up 1/24 Semi Trucks (plenty of red-ones).
i know the dimms of some other parts, so i'll figure out the scale of the red parts and start digging.

Well I was also wondering what what size those were- in case I might narrow it down a bit further? But meanwhile someone here might actually recognize them for what they are exactly!

Being from (I assume) the new display of the Falke on a newer style trailer- I know it's being used in conjuction with a 1/20th scale craft but that's about it for me?

Good Luck!

Howdy Dane! Good to see you here! Well, here are some ideas for you to knock around, quite a bit of Linberg car kits were molded in color and then there is Johan car kits were too.

lindberg/johan - good tip, thank you. i have a swag of jpgs for that brand. ah, the tedious joys of reverse engineering...:)

hey dave - long time lurker, second time poster ;)

i've checked out some general Jo-Han kits - I can't see any A-frame parts on any of the sprues. does anyone know if the Jo-Han had a kit with that much suspension detail?

scale-wise, the A-frames are about 3/4inch to the top of the triangle, 1/2 wide. the leaf spring would be approx 1.5inch long (from other leaf springs I've seen, thats the 1/20-1/24 scale range).

Most Johan kits I've had possession of didn't have seperate a-arms or much of anything in chassis detialing- you're right.

The "daunting" thing to me (were I in your position) is tha the subject is a recent creation. That opens up the time frame for donors to something recent all the way back to something vintage that they had lying around?

Just from my overall experience in the modeling world- I wouldn't be expecting fullsize trucks which usually have a form of straight axle front end- obviously you're looking for something with Independent Front Suspension- IFS. Candidates would be pickup trucks and automobiles.

As an FYI- Lindberg made a few 1/20th subjects back in the eighties/nineties.

I know I'm not really helping- but hope to share my thoughts on the subject?;)

Don is right, the linberg line did have a lot of thier truck kits in 1/20, a Toyota from the baywatch TV series comes to mind.

AND IF, the A-arms and leaf springs happen to have come from the same kit- that leaf spring has quite a bit of "arch" to it- something I'd expect from a truck(light truck/mini-truck/pickup) more than a car. BUT, it's awfully "short? Makes me think from a slightly smaller scale? But what are the odds of them being originally molded in the same shade of red, if not from the same kit?:confused::confused:

Bottom line- good luck!:p

That picture is already kinda fuzzy but I blew it up- and I'm not so sure that's a leaf spring? Looked like one at first-thought I even saw "shackles" which would seem right- but it could also "just" be a chassis crossmember? That would make sense too- a-arms and a chassis crossmember from the same light truck kit and then it would appear to be "in scale" with each other- maybe?

Back to- good luck!:p

the A-frame (or tubular control arm I've learnt) is a close match with 1960's era Chevys. Newer control arms are tubular, whereas the older ones seem to be stamped plate.

Stamped steel control arms STILL exist, dependant upon make and model of vehicle. They do have a GM look to em but that can be deceptive too?

FWIW- just so you don't arbitrarily rule out looking at a kit or two.

Have you considered asking the man who built it?

I'm sure there are members who could translate English to Japanese and vice versa.

yeah i have thought about it - it's a slippery slope that question. Kow is very much in touch with the fans but he gets annoyed when people start asking him to remember which part he used from which kit. this might be because he built most of his work 25 years ago, but also because his donor kits used to be stripped and organised into part bins of similarly shaped parts. the kit boxes are tossed. wheels, discs and dishes come out of the "circle" bin etc. so its hard even for him to pin point the kit.

as a last resort i may give it a go.

Received an email from Kow Yokoyama. Yokoyama-san said he does not know which kit the red parts came from. He did provide some clues.....

Translated: "the model cars were purchased as part of the US. Do you know anyone who might be familiar with the car kit but in the U.S."

Here's a 55 Chevy sprue. The control arms are too rounded and missing the wheel mount axle stub. But it's close.

The steering rods are also used on the trailer (Kow sent some close up pics too).
So what I'm looking for is a 1 piece suspension/steering assembly, in red, and ready for a razor saw :)
