MIG-31 Firefox
Just got this all scrubbed up and ready to get started.
Started fitting parts together. Looks like there's going to be a lot of putty and sanding on this one.

Sweet. Is this the "Thinkin' Russian" kit?
1/72 i'm guessing?

Yes, it's the Studio 2 Thinkin Russian kit that is 1:48 scale. It's like 18-20" long when assembled. I will be able to get an accurate measurement once I get the engine section and engines on.
Lots of gaps on this thing. I think I was spoiled on my first resin kit (BSG Blackbird).
Yeah. The Blackbird was a peach of a model.
And the problem with this Firefox is that it's ever so slightly out in terms of getting the look exact. Not far out. Just slightly.
But i look forward to seeing it started(And finished!).

Howdy,
I have this kit and here's what I noted...first, the box art totally threw me off...it was a scan of the original filming mini, so I made the mistake of assuming that the kit was the same. Opening the box I found that the fuselage was way too slender and had the wrong cross-section, at least for the 63" hero, which was the only thing I could base my info on at the time. the nose was off too as well as the cockpit, but then every model I've had never got this area right anyway...Now that I'm getting back into modelling again, I'll get my 1/32 replica finished hopefully soon... It was this studio 2 kit that was the model that made up my mind to make one from scratch. here's a couple pics that may be of use to modifying the nose area if you choose to do so.
Sincerely,
Will

Hello, Spacemind! I got the same Thinking Russian kit you have, and it can be made pretty accurate with some work. I used Will's pics to get the shape of the nose better on mine and I got the shape of the intakes closer to screen accurate. There was another builder who did one of these as well, and he used Will's advice in getting it more accurate, and his turned out beautifully, unfortunately I can't find the link. Looking forward to seeing some more pics as this build progresses, I've always loved this plane.

No real progress yet. Had some things get in the way of devoting some time to it. Will more than likely make some headway this weekend.

Hello ! Did you ever get any more progress on this kit? Firefox was on tv the other night made me think of the couple of builds that were going on here.
The mig-31 firefox really is one of my fav designs ever!
