Well,
I'm still enjoying building up these lil ships! This kit included two WWII era Japanese Navy 'escorts' and allows bot early and late versions of the ship to be built along with inclusion of a 'Motor Pinnace' which is pretty durn small in itself!
Here's shots of one completed except for weathering and the other started. The differences between the two will only be in deck armament mostly.

I still recommend these as a fun lil diversion that can be builtup quickly with satisfying results unless you wanna be critical of the overscale details and such? But for me they're a fun way to avoid "idle hands" and someday I'll be able to arrange some into a task force on the tabletop and commence wargames!:p
Input, feedback or critique always welcomed.;):D

Yup, that's all I wanted. Just an OOB weekend style build to keep me busy and result in something I consider 'interesting'.
Thanks for the kind words.;):D

I'll let ya in on a couple of "secrets" about these builds. First, I CA'd the "bottom plate" to the one iece hull and then sanded and finshed it into the assembly. Then because of the original ship's color scheme I painted EVERYTHING 'dark gray'. Came over that with an acrylic to represent the linoleum on IJN ships in WWII. Masked off the 'waterline' ("boot topping", whatever) and just used a red ink marker which worked out okay. Then it was just a matter of drawing in the windows with a mechanical/draftsmen .025 pen and assembly? Paint schemes don't get any easier than this one! That and the dimunitive size of the real ship, in this scale- and I knocked out two in as many days?
Here they are with the slight differences between them from early to late war:

Next, I'll throw a lil weathering at em and they'll be done enough! Ya know- I probably spent just as much time waiting for dialup downloads of these pics as I did working on the durn models?
The models were fun. Waiting on downloads ain't! Cept for the fact that I suf and post in the meantime.:D

Wombie,
Yup. I've still to do the weathering. You know with our time difference, I've been sleeping since we last talked!;)
KittySan,
While I was scratching my ass, um, head, looking for something to do and thinking that a 1/700th ship would fit the bill (no, not my beek?) I ALMOST started an HMS Rodney! Now there's a ship I've long wanted to add to the collection but the intricate camo scheme in this scale didn't exactly scream out 'quickie' to me? But I will be getting to it too!
And I will support you in your goal to get some of these lil 'escorts'.;):D
Thanks for the kind words gents!:D

Alrighty!
Used a new 'art brush' that has very stiff bristles on it and just "threw" some pastels against them. The course stiff bristles were good in this scale and gave a nice "streaking effect". So, about ten minutes later after some white and black pastel powders and then a lil Tamiya 'weathering pastel rust', I'll call em done. Posed them alongside a modern era USN Destroyer in one pic for a 'size reference', just for fun.;)

Critique, especially on the "effectiveness" of my crude and quick weathering would be appreciated. As always, thanks for dropping in and I hope you enjoy viewing these and maybe even found something fairly inexpensive, kitwise, that you might enjoy?:D

Where we be without them pastels?
That's added some character to em there Don.
Just what they needed!;)
Blown away how small they are compared to a modern boat though!

Tom,
Yeah, well they lent themselves to some pretty quick assembly! Like I've mentioned to you a few times lately- I've had some sort of severe lack of motivation combined with 'ADHD" towards what I might do at the bench? BAD COMBO- yet these were just the ticket to get a feeling of "accomplishment" in quick order!;)
Wombie,
Yup, Gawd bless pastels and the ease and speed in which you can help a subject along! Being WWII ships I wanted a slightly 'dirty' look for them and that was easy! I had that 'modern' destroyer on the shelf above my bench and looking at it I thought someone might get a kick at the size comparison? The lil Escorts have a good amount of deck clutter to em which almost makes them appear like they're bigger than they really are? But putting that other destroyer alongside drives home how small they were? Wait till I build my WWII Iowa and place that in there too!;)
Thanks gents for the kind words!:D

Nicely done as per your usual, Don.
Quick and dirty works.
Thanks Mech! I ain't as ambitious as you with your Dreadnaught! Looking forward to that one BTW because you can make the 1K scale ships look so much bigger!;) Not to mention it's a really cool subject!
