I received this 1/1400 beastie last year! It was a scratch build done by artist Michael Provenzano (3D-Builder). It is entirely made of balsa wood, sculpting clay, and sheet styrene!!! He based the build off of the small Ertl kit (3 Adversaries) and it turned out WONDERFUL!! Upon viewing this creation, I contacted Michael and he actually DONATED this piece to the collection!!! Let me say that I am honored to host his piece! :D
You did a FANTASTIC job Michael! Thank You!!!
Thank you for looking!!! :D

Wow!
With you in the pic it certainly looks HUGE to me! I see a whole lotta details and even though I've used balsa myself I wouldn't have expected it to be in the recipe for that beauty.
Hat's off to the builder and congratulations to you as well as thanks again for sharing! :D
BTW: When does your 'museum' open?

Thanks fellas! :D
It isn't 'spot on" accurate by any means, but it is a rare bird indeed! ;)
The scale is indeed 1/1400 at approximately 30 inches wide by 40 inches long. It's big! ;)
Just for size comparison, when you see me in the photos next to the beasties... I am 6 feet tall and 310 pounds.  If the model covers me pretty well? It must be larger than the average! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL ... I am like Homer Simpson, but with a ball cap and hair! LOLOLOL
As far as the museum... time will tell. I am still shy the amount of large pieces I wish to be able to show. And... I still need to build the thing! LOLOLOLOL 2008 will bring much, much more to the collection in the larger scales and that much closer to public display. ;)
Thank you again for the compliments.
Michael (3D-Builder) may end up doing another of these beasties for me someday in the future. Much more accurate since there is refernce he can use now. The next would be fully lit as well! Possibly even larger too! :D

Thanks Michael! It is DEFINITELY a beastie with ominous presence! I love it! :D
Thank you again my friend! :D
This is a fantastic piece, for someone that usually doesn't do Star Trek. Nice work, Michael!

DEFINITELY!!! :cool::cool::cool:
I have to get this piece rigged for a studio mount. It may take a bit of cutting first (don't worry Michael ;) ) but it will be well worth it! :D
Wow - what a presence that big guy has. (referring to the model, not Kurt ). Just like it should. A fantastic addition to the collection to be sure.

It looks green to me, but the gray illusion could be from the lighting.
As for accuracy, let's say the Roms have their design all happy and put into into the dockyards. The first one or two come out and they decide they'd like some changes. Well, number 3 and 4 are well underway already, maybe they can be altered some. Then number 5 and 6 will be the 'new' design. Meanwhile, the first has some issues so that's brought back for some refitting. This original design is too radically different from the new design. SO while they've got it cracked open, they go all-out and uniqueify it... There's four versions of one class already.
I don't think any two carriers of ours nowadays in the same class are the exactly same. Is it the Kennedy that has been utterly unique throughout its life? Starting as one class, it got a major redesign in dock, the class was cancelled, but Kennedy was brought to completion. Then it had refits over the years making it radically different from itself, 20 or 30 years previous.
As for that build. NIIIICEEE! Could use lights, but those can always be done in post if required. (I was wondering if your collection was all SW or not, Kurt.)

Kurt,
I've had this idea about post-rigging hardpoints into my models. It seems that multiple points would be great so the whole ship can be shown off over different shoots. But having a whole bunch of holes all over sucks.
My idea is to take an impression and casting of the area to be cut away. This way, a plug can be created and painted up to hide the mounting hole when you are using the other one.
I don't know which of my models I am going to sacrifice for this yet, but it will be the testbed for The Avenger when I can get that. That is the model all my build skills and vfx skills are coalescing to in the immediate future. And I want to show that off from all angles lit.
I'm thinking one mount point as ILM did it -stbd rear side. And then one in the bottom somewhere. Maybe use magnets on the landing bay itself to keep it clean, or razor the big dome... I'll have to see when I get it.
Something to ponder as you move forward. I'm sure some of the master builders here would have some better ideas on this.
Looking at the pix, I thought it was mounted. Nice job cleaning shadows, spill and mounting surface. (and probly a couple other steps too).
Anyway, happy shooting! Is there an inventory of what 'the museum' contains so far?

Thanks fellas! I added a zip file of the re-vamped (color corrected) photos if anyone would like them. :) You are right... the model is more green than grey. :D These photos were some of my first taken..... VERY amature! And yet I STILL have MUCH to learn! LOLOLOLOL I don't think I will ever be satisfied with my photos... lololol.
Multiple hard connects is a very kewl way to do this type of thing. :D But I do agree that having too many on the model sucks! LOLOLOLOL. Unfortunately, when Michael built this, he built it from a static display POV and didn't account for any type of display stand. Being that it is made of wood and styrene, and the shape of this beastie, it makes it difficult to add any mount hardware without significant re-modeling. If I do decide to do this, the utmost care will be taken. ;)
Thanks again for looking fellas! And thanks again for the 'bump' Richard! :D
