Ok I’m back. I want to thank everyone for such great feedback on the HomeWorld model. This next one is my first attempt to do a lighted kit using Revel’s Republic Star Destroyer. I ordered the custom light kit from VoodooFX.com (Great service/product by the way!) There are some test shots here and now she is hanging in my room along with all the Star Wars model kits. (see if you can spot the x-wing) I decided to give this ship heavy weathering. This was just a test to see how this light thing will look like. Hope you enjoy it!

I'd say you had a pretty successful first attempt at a lit ship. Nice work!

After looking at the photos again, I'd like to suggest that next build you go with a lower luminescence LED. Its VERY common for people who light their models to use superbright LEDs which to me do not match the scale. Of course it always comes down to the builder and what they want.

Looks great. Just one important suggestion... THROW AWAY THAT BOTTLE OF TESTORS DULLCOAT IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!
IT WILL ABSOLUTELY RUIN ANY PAINT JOB, OVER TIME, BY TURNING THE PAINT YELLOW-BROWN!!!!!!!

Testor's Model Master enamel gloss, semi-gloss, and flat coat work well. Model Master Acryl flat coat also works well. You can also use Future mixed with Tamiya flat base to acheive semi-gloss, satin, egg-shell, and flat finishes. The Future/Tamiya Flat Base option is a bit of a pain since it requires some trial and error experimenting to get the finish you want.

Your attention to detail, the look of the variation in the panels (not just the shot of it on the bench, but the bottom side in the hanging shot)I'd say on the mark. Not over or under done. Nice workmanship. KEWL

Looks really nice. Someday I will build mine...and light it up. As for alternate clear coats...Tamiya just came out with Flat and Semi-Gloss in spray cans and Gunze Sangyo's Super Clears are great as well (they eaven make one called UV Cut, I am guessing that it blocks UV rays from the sun to prevent fading).

I do like the design of this ship, and the 'Republic Red' adds to the overall flavor. I like what you've done with her sir.. may have to get one for myself.. the best of this line of kits from RG IMHO.

Awesome job! Love the colors you chose for the ship. From the pics it looks a grey-green (ala Tamiya IJN grey) Mind sharing what colors you used and how you accomplished the overall look?

Hey bud! I ordered a custom kit from voodoofx.com. I used the smallest drill I could find with fiber optics. This is the first lighted kit that I did, so I don't know if I'm the right person to ask.. some members said that the lighting sucks, some loved it. I had to do all the minor wiring so this is the best I could do.. If you have any other question you can always write to me!
send some pictures of your model, can't wait to see it!
Take care.
