Hiya folks, been out of it for while trying to catch up on our commissions. Here's some progress of one of the 2 Polar Lights 1/350 scale Refit models we have been working on simultaneously. This is the 1701-A being built to customer specs. Link to album below. Click full size to avoid a fuzzy image.

I just LOVE this ship! It is probably my favorite 1701 design! LOLOLOL
I can't wait to view further progress on this beastie! Your talent for these ships, The TrekModeler, is TOP NOTCH sir! :D
It's funny.. I was just looking at one of John Eblan's (of The FX Company) sweet builds of the PL Refit. What can I say? I just LOVE this ship!
Please sir... may I have some more?! :D
You didn't really detail out the cockpit of the shuttle inside the shuttle bay. did you? No way - freaking awesome.

Paint job looks great so far, nice and soft, none of those deep blueish colors sticking out, very cool, I dont get tired of seeing this ship painted, keep the pics coming:D
Love the muted colors on the secondary.
Excellent.
Oh yeah----nice and subtle! Lighting is bad ass too! :D

Thanks for the words of kindness Gentlemen, it is much appreciated!
Paint work on the forward deflector housing is done now. Everything is dry-fitted in place with the exception of the sensor spokes. We added some new pics to the album. Couple of links below.
Oh and yep, that's a bit of a done up cockpit for the main shuttle! :dude:
And upon a closer look at the VIP area, you'll notice the ol' Trek Trio, Kirk, Spock and McCoy standing-by looking as they were in the sixties.

That is a rather nice paint job, so close to the decal sets that are out there that you actually had me fooled for a minute.
Since you have elected to "pre-paint" the engineer/stronback before assembling the deflector housing, how do you correct for the substantial light leakage around the seams with out puttying and messing up that fine paint job? Or do you seal this from the inside before installing the dish. I know for a fact that this kit leaks light real bad around the housing, especially up near the base of the neck channel under the photon torpedo array?

In regards to the seam around the forward deflector housing. In all of our PL refit builds I have never noticed any leaks(major or otherwise) around the natural seam line of the forward deflector itself. There is one however just under the column beneath the torpedo launchers but the way I see it leaving on is a relatively small price to pay for a really great electronics access point. So in other words the forward deflector housing isn't even going to be glued on at all. It will be fully detachable. The studio model apparently has the same feature.

I wasn't eluding to the fact that you had to use the aftermarket decals on the strongback....just that the paint job itself was dead nuts on  Like i said, you has me fooled on that actually being a paint job.
Since you are allowing for a removable deflector housing for maintenance reasons on the electronics package, then that answers my question as to why you wouldn't need to worry about touching up that paint job after sealing the light leaks. The studio model has access panels and detachables for the same maintenance purposes. Any light leak issues there are edited out. Any potential light leaks would drive me nuts if it were my build....but then again, that's why we're all have different methods to the madness when we build these things. Carry on, it is coming along fine. :D
Thanks!

Hey guys and gals!
Update time...
All of the major work for the secondary hull is complete. The nacelles and pylons will now be taken care of, then the saucer. Once everything is together we'll focus on the smaller stuff like painting the hatches, thrusters, phaser banks, etc. For now though we've added some more pics to the album. Links below. Click on 'full size' to avoid the fuzzy picture.

You guys are Great Thanks alot!
What color of blur are you using? It looks perfect.
The colors used for the 1701-A mix is mainly Model Masters US Navy Blue/Gray, Intermediate Blue and Flat white. We never keep a record of the actual ratios but those are the colors used. Mixing the flat white with the US Navy Blue/Gray and the Intermediate Blue will produce different shades of the blue/gray that come pretty close to the 1701-A scheme.
...I know we said that we were going to work on the Pylons and Nacelles next but we decided to get work done on the Saucer first. The Pylons and Nacelles are primed and ready to recieve the paint job though.
Now proceeding with the update. We have completed work on the upper decks and most of the aztec panneling for the top and the bottom of the saucer section. There's only one more layer to go before it's done.

Now THIS is the classic angle I remember from skiffy mags back in '79 before the release of The Motion Picture. Brings back memories of my old blue-plastic AMT Enterprise and wanting to 'Scotty' it into the refit. Didn't know how I was gonna do it because I didn't have:
