Well? After MR gave up on Star Wars,... and eFX bought the license, The RED 5 prototype that MR had was transfered to eFX. Unfortunately, according to Barry Jones (of eFX) the MR prototype was not up to standard of what he considered to be what the fans were looking for. So they started from scratch and now have something to show at 2008 Comic Con. Even though this prototype has obvious assembly issues, I must give eFX credit for showing as much as they were able in the short time they had before this event. Their RED 5 is quite good in my opinion, even though it has a few differences from what I know the Ep IV RED 5 actually has. ;) They did a marvelous job! :D Especially in the Full Sized cockpit mock-up! :D I lOVE IT! :D
That stated... I WILL be purchasing one when they become available!
Thanks to Rebelscum.com for providing photos for everyone to view of this bird! :D

I'm impressed with the seat. It looks just like that Recaro-thing they used in the set pieces AND as rolling chairs in the docking bay office station on the Death Star.
I think it's a good amalgam of several sources and should make the collectors who buy them happy campers.
I sure wish they had THESE when we were kids!

I love that cockpit.
AGREED! They really made it look like the full sized version! VERY nice indeed!
Is it just the way it's put together for the display, or will this have the possibility of multiple mounting points? It looks like the side panels are removable.

That would be a killer twist... and great selling point, but I just can't see them taking time and effort to do that. Especially with the electronic package. It looks as if they may have done this rather quickly to get it seen. So I think I will agree with your first assessment as accurate! It is just assembled less than perfect right now. LOLOLOL I think the final birds will be much better. ;)

I agree the cockpit looks very good and for an over all prototype it looks promising. But iam scared to ask what will they be asking for it.

I have been told this will be released by the end of 2008... or at least that is what they are trying for. No matter what, this beastie WILL make it to the public. I look forward to it! :D

That cockpit rocks, but as daytona said, holding my breath on what this things gonna wind up costing. I may just have to get a V3 and do it the way I want it, will probably be way cheaper, we'll see.

I know what ya mean.
I think I will make an estimated prediction now of $1,200 to $1,500, with possibly a signed edition at $2,000. Actually, I don't believe there will be a signed edition... just thinking to far ahead I guess! LOLOLOL
I can say that with little modification, the V3 can be made into any of the onscreen X-wings. ;)
Steve is posting some interesting stuff on the RPF regarding this beastie in response to RKW's questions. Good reading indeed! :D
Where's the full size cockpit picture?

Drew... I will get back to ya on the full sized cockpit.. ;)
In the mean time.. there is some GREAT discussion spawned from the accuracies and inaccuracies of the eFX bird started by BEAZ and with GREAT participation by Jason, Lee and other notable modelers. This discussion may just solve a mystery of Reds 4 and 6. Jerry... take note... I know you are looking for 4 reference right now. ;)
Here is the RPF thread...

Copied from the RPF... here is whet eFX owner, Barry, has to say about the new X-wing coming up for sale this Thursday...
Hey guys, with regards to the paint reference used on the eFX X-wing. We were supplied the colors by an ILM model researcher who we'd worked with successfully in the past. We examined what remains of Red Five and had to take into account what colors, panels and weathering where there originally and not added after the Red Four conversion, and the aging of the paint. The trick of course is matching them as closely as we can at our factory in China.
The version reviewed on Rebelscum is a prototype and is changing. Red Five was covered in many subtle different colors and we have tried to capture them as closely as we can. It's also a hard model to light and photograph faithfully.
As for the question of the engine detail inside the in-wing engine bays? Frank and Moe were our authorities there, thanks, guys, and we had the original RED FIVE wings to work from as Frank has already posted. The interesting thing about the wings is that they differ considerably from any recast pyro set that we've seen yet, particularly in regard to the in-wing engine bay's width and depth and even their size and shape.
Red Five/Four now has grub screws along the leading wing edge, which our master pattern makers over zealously copied. These were removed as they were NOT there for ANH. They seem to have been added during ESB. Perhaps to keep the wings held tightly together since they're not seen splayed open?
Barry
Okay,
We've been working crazily trying to arrange something special for our first FX Model release, and here it is.
Anyone who pre-orders the eFX Luke Skywalker’s X-wing Starfighter “Red Five” FX model between December 11th, 2008 and December 21st, 2008 will receive “at no additional cost” a special plaque, signed by Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill! You read that right! At NO additional cost!
Mr. Hamill will only sign enough plaques to accompany the pre-orders and the Signature Plaque will NOT be available again, even at an additional cost!
This applies to all pre-orders whether you pay in full or choose later to use the layaway option. The edition size remains constant at 1000 pieces, this is NOT an additional run. The number of pre-orders received by end of day December 21st will constitute the size of the Signature Edition. The balance will be regular Limited Editions and will come with a different plaque. So, to illustrate the point, if we receive 721 pre-orders the Signature Edition plaques will number 1-721 and the Limited Edition plaques will number 722-1000.
Thanks,
Barry
