yeppers, this is the Xmen 2 jet version, which I like better...yes Scott Lowther did the patterns for the 1/144 scale version of this and he did a perfect job on the masters. it is to be released hopefully some time this year. get in line for one of these instead..

A nice studio scale one would be right up your alley Will.

If no one else builds this, I will, for the simple fact that I love the design and would want it for myself. I would think one around 3 feet long would be really nice.

I just heard from Skip again (He tossed me the ball on this) and apparently he himself began a scratchbuild a while back!

I'll see if he'll come and post some pics

Hi guys.

I'm Skip. I've always loved the X-Jet Ver:2. Much more sleek than the first version.

I started a scratchbuild earlier this year. Had a little time going and wanted to get this done. I didn't want it too big for my first pass so I opted to build it around 10" long. I got my orthos from the DVD features.

My method was to take measurements from my printed orthos and create a bulkhead type frame. Rhen as it was so small, I filled the framework with Milliput. Then using the frame as a sanding guide, sanded the Milliput back intil I was satisfied.

Unfortunately I only got the upper section before getting side tracked.

I wanted to go back to it but as I'm back to working with cardmodels, I thought it'd be nice to have a papermodel of it and put out a call for help.

Rel, mentioned having one 3' long. 3' was always my favourite number when it came to building model from scratch. That's stayed with me and I'd like to do the same with tis paper X-Jet.

I'm actually in the middle of building a 3' Olympic Carrier from the New BSG series. It's also a papermodel, but that's another topic. :)

There's really not too much to see with my scratchbuild as it wasn't ever completed. I'll upload some pics tomorrow morning for you all anyway.

I've seen your work and it's top notch, whichever scale you make I'll definitely want one, the bigger the better.

Welcome Skip! :D

Indeed! The bigger, the better! A 3 foot version would be quite nice and displayable! ;)

I would also enjoy viewing your Olympic Carrier build in another thread! I hope you start one! :)

Thanks for the welcome guys.

The scratchbuild was just a one off for myself. I'm thinking of trying to resurrect that build now, be a pity to waste what I've done so far.

As for the paper X-jet, that would be a free to download model. Well, if Oylpslyk agrees, he's designing this. I've designed papermodels before and released them but I couldn't get my head around the curved of this thing when I tried to model it in CG. That's why I asked for help on it.

I'll definitely build my copy big!!

I'll start a thread on the Olympic Carrier later today. Are papermodels cool here then? I guessed by the name that this was a resin/scratchbuild forum?

Any type of models is good here, doesn't matter what it's made of.

I can't find my old WIP pics of my X-Jet. I still have it though and took 2 pics for you guys. You can make out the styrene frame surrounded by the Milliput.

I took a load of screen grabs for OylPslyk too to help him out with the design of the papermodel.

While the main wing design didnt appeal to much at first, this is what the Xjet should have looked like all along...more along the lines of a modified SR in my book.cott Nailed this design perfectly..

To try and help Oylpslyk out with the papermodel design, I've been trying to find more reference for it aside from my DVD screen grabs.

Does anyone know of a place or source? Renders of the movie CG mesh would be nice, especially in 5 views. :) Unlikely but can't blame a guy for trying right?

I looked online for quite a while yesterday and did not find much, other than marketing stuff for the film. I didnt look in any of the 3d forums tho.

I believe I have plenty to work with now as it stands though.

edit: wow, just saw Scott's model, awesome!

I always like the second bird better. Very nice!

The movie Xjet looks way darn better than the comics which is just a SR71.

I made the master parts for Fantastic Plastics forthcoming 1/144 version of the X2 Xjet. Ain't no three feet long, that's for sure, but I think it came out pretty well. I'm looking forward to seeing the kits.
