View Full Version : Stargate in 1/28 "Would you want lights?" (Poll)
Hey guys. No pics of the gate i am working on(Should have some progress images this week or next week hopefully), but i want to pose a question to you all:
If the gate was mastered in such a way that it COULD be lit up(With a similar system that our very own MaKoTo did on his 1/72 gate (http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q-oi9nQJ0o)), would you be interested in the lights as an upgrade kit?
The idea is that the kit would be available from another member here seperately to order, first come first served.
I just want to see an approximate show of hands.
No-one will be held to anything.
The question is:
IF you were going to buy the kit anyway, would lights DEFINITELY be on the agenda if it was a pre-wired system to "plug and play", or would you be totally not interested in anything like that?(We are talking a proper chevron lighting sequence: 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9(+4 and 5). Then 20 seconds "on", and then off...
Thanks for voting.
I have posted this same thread at SSM, but i wanted to see if i would catch a different group of folks here, just to make sure i had all my bases covered
I'm justdoing a feasability study right now(I'd rather the poll NOT be anonymous here, so please post your preference).
Bar.
So the options are:
Yes. I would DEFINITELY want a lighting kit.
No. I have no need for lights.

Well it's a silly question to ask me if i would want lights in it :D
i know it a question directed at everyone of course but mine would be a yes for certain!

definitely lights! and if possible can the "inner ring" be cast seperately so it can spin?
If it were seperate, would you need motors to move it?
That's just my little joke.
It would be over engineering to make the innner ring to spin. Only one ring on one gate in the Milky Way galaxy spins...

Well maybe he wants to make that one gate :-P

That's fair comment. But it's unlikely to assume everyone would want the ring to spin.
I intend to make the castings fairly thin walled, so potentially, you could chop out the glyph ring and install tiny pager motors.
But if you are THAT skilled, wouldn't you already make your own gate?
I am getting some polymorph material tomorrow, guys, and hopefully i will have something to show off soon.

Thats cool Bar! It would come with clear resin i assume? I would like to have the option to light the gate if i wanted too.

Well a lighting kit wouldn't be much good without something that lets the light through now, would it?

I guess Chevron 7 won't lock...
Anything new?
To be honest, the gate i was making has... Copyright issues...
It's potentially a lawsuit waiting to happen...
So i haven't done any more on it.
Here is the project when i put it on hold:

That sucks, but the gate mold looked really good.
It still does!
I have it sitting here right next to my desk.
So many issues...

You made a mistake. Thats not a stargate, common to that one show on sci-fi based on a movie.
That is quite clearly a generic "Galactic Portal."

If only it were that easy, my friend...
There are other... complications...

Bar...are those pulls from "the molds" ?
How did it work out using urethane?
Tough to remove?

They ARE pulls from the molds...
But i built a wooden frame around the molds and poured in about four pints of sillicone into the shape...
So those pulls are solid sillicone. The solid square slab of rubber means the gate maintains it's shape, even in rubber.
I couldn't come up with a way to reverse engineer a set of solid gates(I tried wax copies of the rubber in casting wax, and then resin copies of that, but the resin melted the wax, evev when cast in small amounts to keep the heat down). And that, along with the ethical considerations stopped the project.
I still have the female molds. And the rubber males.
I am just wary.

Understandable......well...when you decide to risk it....I have a company in China ready to run those molds in clear  ;)
Does this also apply to the bigger Daedalus you were going to do?

Not at all.
Just been lax with that one.
It'll get done.
Eventually...
