Bitchin! You even got the wind direction string placed aft of the radome and forward of the canopy!
Yep... brings back memories of my own deployments. It's nice to see Military subjects now and then too.

Bump. This bird hasn't been getting the attention that it deserves. This is one of your finest examples of your 1/48 collection!

I must agree :) You really outdid yourself, Moorcat.
Clean build, plus I'm a fan of the weathering :)

Sorry. Seeing the F-14 is traumatic for me knowing that they're being chopped up into bits at the bone yard. Can't beleive the Navy gave up Air Superiority for bomb droppers. Don't get me wrong... I like the Superbug, but it ain't no air superiority fighter/interceptor like the Tomcat was.

Even the Navy's current bomb-droppers ain't as good as the old A6. Problem was as is always the problem with aircraft out of production for awhile... after so many flight hours, the airframes just can't be rebuilt anymore and the maintenance costs and spares costs go up pretty high the longer in the tooth an aircraft gets.
'Integration' and 'Multi-Role Capability' are the buzzwords now.

Yup. But hey... I almost forgot... the Navy's getting the F-35!!! They will soon have one serious ass-kicking Air Superiority fighter.

^ I hope it lives up to its promise!
I have to tell you... with the A6, A7 and F14 gone, Moorcat and I feel like old men now. Hell, even when the SH-3 was replaced by the SH-60, I was starting to feel that way as the old airwing was starting to change into the new... but it's been that way since Eugene Ely flew in 1910...

^ Yup.... when Nimitz was still in Norfolk before coming around the 'Horn' to Bremerton back in '87. She's in San Dog now after her big overhaul.
Nice Maneaters! ( Both CAG birds )

One of the things Sean did that makes this all the more accurate is that he replicated the varying colors of gray these get painted over the course of a cruise. Nominally, everything is supposed to be a uniform 'Haze Gray' color, but out there, they use what they have on hand. Sometimes the stock is old... different batch numbers or just poorly mixed. I've seen some birds almost a duck-egg blue! Here, there... in patches... sometimes the whole airframe. Out there the big worry isn't appearances, it's corrosion control.

yep a BB stacker- help load some of VA-85's (A-6's) bombs during Desert Storm they could carry some serious amount of death. An airflamer :p no wonder the paint looks dead on. Active for another 2 years :D good to be aboard. you would not have any F/A-18 painted like VFA-86 would you?
