I received the BSG TOS “Commander Cain Edition” Studio Scale Viper!

Bob (OOT) really did it justice… as the kit very much needed the attention. As was mentioned in another thread, the MIM SS Viper Kit (which I don’t believe they sell any longer) has some challenges that just would have taken too much effort to correct, so Bob diverted doing the regular SS replica and did this fictitious CDR Cain Edition! I LOVE IT!!! As you can see, the kit’s panel lines and symmetry are a bit off, but Bob did a wonderful job in making it displayable!

FEEL FREE TO USE THESE PHOTOS HOWEVER YOU LIKE. :)

Yeah, I'll bet!

Did you zoom it around your place before packing it off to Mr. Kuhn? C'mon, man. You can tell. I promise not to tell anyone else.

Oh Hell yeah!

I still have the first Cylon Basestar I built back in the early '80's as well as the first Galactica I built w/the re-issue of the mid-90's that duke it out occasionally for the benefit of my kids. I start off w/the Basestar coming around the cornor doorway of my office - Dun Dun Duh, duh, dun DUNNNN! :D

LOLOLOL... ya know? That is not a bad idea. :) Getting into some motion video may be something to consider soon. ;) I am having enough fun just doing the blue stuff right now. ;)

I just flew the HUGE, REL built, Nemesis 1701E back into the collection area! If only I were a kid again. This stuff is truly what was in my dreams. ;) However... during my young age, I probably would have blown them all up to see how kewl it was! LOLOLOLOLOL... I guess it is fortunate that I am a bit older after all! ;)

Thank you for the kind words Nostromo! :D And welcome to your first post! :D It is great to have you here. :)

Indeed! This is Bob's creation and weathering of an MiM kit. He did a GREAT job with it! This will not be the last viper he does. We have at least 4 more TOS vipers scheduled that I am excited about. ;)

I have thought about re-taking photos of this beastie. ;)

Thank you again for the kind words. :)

That said, when doesn't Bob do a beautiful build?Maybe it's time you start to make it a bit more challenging for him, perhaps one arm tied behind his back or something.:p

Some more viper's for Bob u say..:cool:I'll be watchin for them in the WIP thread.

Soon you'll be taken picture's of a whole squadron in front of the blue screen!:smileinbox::smileinbox::smileinbox:

Ah..huh! Out of Time is Bob, which is also Robert. The kim-chee part I have not figured out yet, do forgive me. Btw, I am really impressed with the weathering you did on this Viper, really had that original finishing touches feel to it.

It looked to be painted professionally freehand with varying brushes rather than airbrushed. Hopefully you could share some tips.

Kurt, Wombat, Thanks for the warm welcome.

Kurt, If you are retaking photos, maybe more close-ups and shots from the underside, something we don't get to see often.

Oh....I am so loving this place!

That's awesome. I remember playing with my first Viper, the one with the little plastic missles! That, pales in comparison to this work, obviously.

Thanks for posting, and never be ashamed to play with your models.!

Nice work Bob/Kurt!

My dad helped me put one of those together in the 70's. He was very clear about not pointing it at one's face!!!

During my tenure in the Agoge, I had a 1/48 F-104 jabbed into my eye socket and I didn't cry. I ripped the bloddy radome out of my gory eye socket and ate it! :D :D

No, I'm kidding... that would hurt like hell!

Rivets were done with white Elmer's glue applied with a toothpick!

You can't see the Cain figure too well, but I gave him a cravat made of tissue paper soaked in diluted white glue and I also used gold leafing for his epaulets and buckles on his battle jacket. His helmet has been modified to reflect a Pegasus winged horse instead of the Galactica bird of prey.

One thing the photos make apparent is just how warped that kit was. I rebuilt a good portion of the rear underside... but that nose... Cain needs a new plane.

Well actually it was done with pastels and washes applied with Q-tips, fingertips and a damp sea sponge. Very little brushing was done by hand. Some airbrushing was done for the general stuff, but for the 'grit'... I just don't use one. To me nothing simulates granular crap and grime better than powders.

This show's you how experienced i am,but what is white Elmer's glue?Is it a like a mdf wood glue?

I like your attention to such detail's as with the Cain pilot and your MK I Sturbuck pilot also OOT:cool:.

How did you do that cockpit display it look's really awesome?

This kit was the only SS Viper i could fine when i bought it and i didn't know anything about how bad a kit it is.The good thing about it is that it had me searching the web for forum's,to help me with my average modeling skill's and that's how i found this great place.:D:D:D

Mr Kuhn mentioned he had more viper's for you in the future,if they are the original viper's i hope he has some better kit's for you than the MiM one's.;)

I read somewhere about the best SS viper's are refered to as Jesse's Viper's i think.I would like to get one of them and am hoping they may be cast again someday.

Your build's and Mr Kuhn's photo's are fantastic, they really show off your great work. What a TEAM!;):)

Looks really cool!

I don't remember the episode that well, was the model on the show painted like this or is it an interpretation of what Pegasus Viper markings should have looked like?

No. Much lighter. Kids use it to glue construction paper.

How did you do that cockpit display it look's really awesome? Thanks! I used aircraft cockpit instrumentation decals. Afterall, the fullsize mockup used a real 8-ball ( artificial horizon ) and other real A/C instrumentation.

I read somewhere about the best SS viper's are refered to as Jesse's Viper's i think.I would like to get one of them and am hoping they may be cast again someday. From what I know, Jesse Meyers extensively reworked the master to be much more symmetrical and fixed the flaws inherent in the MIM kit, which is actually smaller than true SS due to generational shrinkage.

Thanks Jerry!

It's interpretive, although the Pegasus shield emblem under the canopy on the left side comes from the show. I thought since it was 'Silver Spar' squadron, I'd do the black/silver stripes instead to be different.
