View Full Version : Tholian Web Spinner

Padawan v 2.5
03-09-2008, 06:19 PM
Here is my Tholian Web Spinner from Enterprise. I finally get to move this from the "in progress" folder to Finished Models. She is a scratch-build made from nothing but layers of sheet styrene. The original was used as a master to make molds for the kit. This is the first copy out of the molds and has been finished with Testors enamels.

I have a few kits left from this run. I'm going to put whatever doesn't sell through here and SSM on eBay. So if you would like one, email me soon at pstomlinson@hotmail.com. $55+shipping.

Got mine today Pat..

Thanks for the fast service.

Detail is crisp and clean. The kit ( at least the one I have ) looks to need very little cleaning to get the parts to fit tight.

I must say that I am 100% impressed...

And Kurt, it measures out around 8.5"

Trekmanscott

At 8.5 inches that would make it 1/69 scale. Assuming the measurements at Ex Astris Scientia are correct. I can't wait to get mine!

Got mine today, too. Thing is sweet! Only major issue was removing pour stubs on all three parts - and we all know how easy it is to remove pour stubs! Simple as pie.

If you've not gotten one yet, definitely get one!

Hey there Pat - I can't purchase another one until Friday, so if you put 'em up on E-Bay, no problemo!

Mine are on it's way!

In regards to what to make next.... do you want to do ST or some other item?

If it does not have to be a ST or SW related.... I'm still waiting for someone to make the Phantom Cruiser from Space Ghost. :idea1:

I was being somewhat facetious. The next master is finished and is being prepped for casting. It will be some time yet before it's ready for sale.

I'm glad to hear it was a success for you, Pat.

Mine has arrived today and I really have to say that the details are very crisp and not soft.

Very little prep work will be needed.

So if you are on the fence.... don't be with this.

You did very well on this one Pat. :happy6: :occasion14:

Looking forward to your future projects! :hail:

Frack that was fast. Two days from FL to NV is not bad for USPS. Glad you're satisfied with them. I want to see progress pics on these builds, it's not like you can complain about a complicated assembly.

I have the base coat of Alclad Steel on mine. I masked it off last night and hope to apply Alclad Chrome to the engines this afternoon, and then get some Tamiya Clear on them tonight. Pics to follow

but I think I got a way figured to incorporate LEDs to light up the web.
I want to display the two I got as being "Back-to-Back" with the beginnings of a web between the two. I found a yellow "swizzle stick" that will stand in for the web and some tiny LED's. the trick will be in hiding a switch and deciding if I want to make the batteries removable or not.

Trekmanscott
04-01-2008, 10:53 AM
interesting idea.

My plan is to paint the base to look like a web. I painted a piece of Brass rod with Tamiya clear yellow. I drilled a hole in the rear of the model for the rod. Now I just have to get the base painted.

Aztek Dummy

yes, there is a weight issue to be dealt with. Brass would be sturdier than the clear plastic stick i'm using.

I'm thinking that I'll mount it on a wall (like a dear head trophy) rather than a table stand. and make pegs out of clear acrylic to attach the ships that way the weight is off of the web and I can make a nice web background for the wall plaque

I think that wall plaque is a great idea. What would be interesting is if the 'web' itself could be made of lightwire ( EL filament )...

I got mine and it looks good. The castings are crisp and mine had no pour stubs at all.

I loaned it to JBOT while he was here. He is going make up some nice iridescent APLS printed decals for the waffle panels on the sides. I'll see if he wants to market them to everyone.

change of light plans...

I've scrapped the LED route in favor of my old friend Automotive neon!

I found a 6" piece (white, not my first choice, but I can paint it) that is the perfect thing. I'm going to run the wiring out the side (thru a mounting tube) and then into the wall plaque/base.

A slight delay, but I think an overall improvement, so It's worth it.

And YES I would be interested in those decals JBOT!!
