OK fellas! Let me start by stating how FANTASTIC this build turned out by Bob! Not that he needed it, but he had a GREAT NEW KIT to work from! The Mike Salzo V2 (version 2) of the Studio Scale TOS Cylon Raider.
I uploaded some comparison photos in HI RES so you may see the differences.
The new V2 kit is MUCH more defined in detail. It is quite BEEFY and shows that extreme care was placed in it's final fit and finish by Mike. Even Bob PRAISED this kit!!! Keep in mind that Bob doesn't usually have any good things to say about the kits he works on! LOLOLOLOL He is most honest in his reviews of the items he works on. ;)
The shape of the V2 kit is so much more attractive to what the original showed like on the big screen. The V1 is a little shallow in looks and feel. It shows a bit of sag in it's form that the V2 completely corrects!
BEEFY!!! That is the word of the day with this beastie new V2 Kit!! It's lines are perfect. It's shape is outstanding!
Mike Salzo.... Thank you for making this new beastie available! I can't tell you enough how pleased I am. There is such a HUGE difference in the two that it is almost an entirely new ship to me!
After the first thumbnail, the few photos after that are side by side comparison shots in Hi Res. Then there are a few photos I did of the V2 and V1 Raiders in flight mode for fun!
Please enjoy them and do with them as you like.

I guarantee you will see a difference.
BTW... Bob was the builder in both instances! :) He did a wonderful job (as usual) with the two of them! :D

Pretty neat! Now you just need a Gold Raider to have a command pilot in the formation. :)

That is a SWEET idea Griff! :D
Was there actually a color difference in the command Raider? I really like that idea! I should ask Mike if he has plans for a cockpit for the kit? It seems to me that someone had one out before? Hmmmmm
Ooops! After looking at the comparison shots, I forgot to say that this version is MUCH more accurate to the filming beastie in my opinion. Mike can eloborate for us. ;) Looking at the TOP shots, you can definitely tell what differences there are.

LOLOLOLOL... I very much agree! I couldn't believe the height difference alone!
Bob, I can't praise this beastie enough my friend! It is a masterpiece! :D Thank you so much! :D

I can see how you mean beefy-er, the V2 seems to have more height than the V1, though both are very nice

Mr. K,
It looks like someone sat on poor Version 1 before it was fully cured ;) I agree the Version 2 looks very accurate to the filming miniature congrats!
on the color difference seen in televised footage there is a debate over whether it is an oops in compositing, or intentional setting apart of a raider by color. I lean toward oops but it makes a nice variation in the raiders similar to the cylon costumes having 3 colors to signify levels of command
Your mileage may vary :D

Mr. Salzo has a hit, I think, with this V2 offering.

There's a difference between normal challenges and material defects. I try hard to distinguish between the two. Normal challenges are to be expected; I don't expect a kit to just.... fall together.... but when they do, like THIS one does, building can be real fun for those of us who like to get to the painting and weathering fairly quickly. Also, bear in mind that from a production standpoint, time is money. The faster I can produce a quality finished item, the better it is for me. If I were building casually for myself, then some of the things I will ding a kit on are irrelevant.
I believe a well-engineered kit is an art form in itself and I love 'em when they're as well done as this one.

Thanks for the compliments guys, this kit was really a labor of love for me, this along with the Viper are really at the top of my list of favorite ships.....also need to take a quick moment to thank Mark D and Jim Key again, this would not be possible without them as well...Great builds Bob!!!
thanks guys

hello, very nice job, it looks great. Does any body knows what is the exactly color of the cylon raider? Is it sky grey or blue grey?, Thanks.

Hey is this ver1 the Jim Keys master that was reworked?

Version 1 the Jim Key master that Jesse and i purchased from Jim a few years ago, Version 2 is the retooled master that I made with with support from Jesse and Mark D.
The differences are mostly in the top and sides of the ship, the crurvature of the top has been corrected both front to back and side to side. Also the rear louvers were corrected and any other of the parts that were "pulled" into the correct shape/detail by the corrected top, including the cockpit area, the raised area behind the cockpit, and the overall height of the ship including the sidewalls.

LOLOLOLOLOL.... Anyone have an answer for this question? :)
Thank you for the kind words btw. :) Bob painted each of my birds a slightly different color. The V2 is much more dark the the V1. Grey is an interesting color since blue can be seen in it.
Mike's artist proof for this kit looks to be the lighter than what Bob did with mine. You can see definite differences between my two birds in the links provided in the earlier posts. You can view Mike's kit process and his color choice by clicking on this thread link...

Your color match was correct Mark. The Galactica is painted with Poly Scale IJA light grey.
I believe its discontinued.
Jim C
argotes,
I believe that the color the Galactica was painted would be an acceptable choice since they were all built by the same guys at the same shop.
Until someone answers with a more exact color I think it is the best choice at this time. ;)

Mike... do have unbuilt hulls that you could show and describe the differences between the V1 and V2? And possible why you did so? ;) I think there are a few out there that may be asking this question...especially if they already have the V1 in their collection. :)

BTW.... it has been brought to my attention that my review of the V1 seemed as if I were 'bashing' it. That could not be further from the truth. I cherish my V1 because it is accurate to a the 'pyro' models used in the film and show. The V2 has so many differences that make it more "hero" to me that I could not help to praise that as well. It is new and deserves that praise... especially since the the same pattern maker of the the V1 (our own Mark Dickson) also had a hand in making the V2, along with Mike Salzo and Jesse Meyers. Which is also why I mentioned in an earlier post that I appreciated ALL who made the V2 possible. They are the same, but VERY different. And BOTH are well worth the money. :) I display them together with pride! :D .... My guests sure think they are awesome! ;)

Jeez...the fragile egos of an artist! Don't apologise Kurt for stating the obvious. The fact the original artists had a hand in the new model should mean they should feel proud and accept it's a better model. But even this new model can be improved upon, it's known as PROGRESS. It's why we don't have to endure shit like Galactica 1980 anymore!
